While each of the low-wage industries in North Carolina is unique in its own right, we have selected four to explore more closely: restaurants, an rapidly growing industry that contains a large portion of North Carolina workers; grocery stores, some of which house headquarters in the state; home healthcare, one of the most quickly expanding low-wage industries; and agriculture, the full story of which does not seem to be adequately captured by the numbers. We believe these four snapshots reveal changing trends in North Carolina’s low-wage industries.
